San Luis Lakes State Park
     

      San Luis Lakes State Park is located about 82 miles northwest of Walsenburg. The Mosca Campground is located in the low dunes west of San Luis Lake. This campground has 51 campsites situated at an elevation of 7,525 feet. They are arranged in three loops overlooking San Luis Lake. Campsites can accommodate any size RVs with many long pull-through parking areas. There are no trees. Each campsite has a fire grate and sheltered picnic table (the only shade). Vegetation consists of high desert shrubs. You get great views of the Great Sand Dunes to the east, about 15 minutes away. Facilities include electrical hookups, drinking water and an available dump station. A bathhouse with modern restrooms, hot showers and laundry facilities is located in the campground. Popular activities at this campground include fishing, water sports, and wildlife watching.

     The campground is open year round. Reservations are accepted.

Activities:
FISHING: Fishing for trout is available in San Luis Lake when water levels are adequate.

HIKING: There are wide, level gravel trails in the wildlife area to provide a pleasant, safe hiking experience among the low dunes and wetlands.

BIKING: The trails in the wildlife area are also accessible to mountain bikes.

PICNICING: There are numerous picnic sites scattered through out the park.

WILDLIFE VIEWING:   Waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds and raptors fill the sky over this outstanding watchable wildlife area most of the year.

Take Highway 160 west from Walsenburg for 60 miles. Go north on Highway 150 for 13.5 miles. Turn left on Six Mile Lane and drive straight for 8 miles and then drive north 1/8 mile to park entrance.
