Spruce Group Campground
     

      The Spruce Group Campground is located about 40 miles southwest of Pueblo near Lake Isabel. The elevation here is 8,800 feet. This campground has no well defined campsites. It is situated along St. Charles Creek. Vegetation consists of dense spruce trees. The road through the campground is paved. This group campground has a covered picnic shelter that seats 25 to 30 people. There are 2 grills that are 3' by 2' deep and there are 6 fire rings with grates at individual campsites. This campground also has a horse shoe pit, volleyball court, vault-type accessible toilet, drinking water from a hand pump and trash dumpsters. The capacities for this campground are 90 people for day use and 40 for overnight use. There is parking for up to 26 vehicles. Reservations are required. An entrance fee is charged for the Lake Isabel Recreation Area. Bears may frequent this campground so food precautions should be taken. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.

FISHING: Fishing is available in Lake Isabel and St. Charles Creek.

HIKING: Hiking is available on the Cisneros, St. Charles , and Snowslide trails.

BIKING: Biking is available on the Cisneros, St. Charles , and Snowslide trails.

BOATING: Non motorized boating is permitted on LakeIsabel.

From Pueblo, go 25 miles south on interstate 25 to exit 74. Go west 18 miles on state Hwy 165. Turn into the south entrance at Lake Isabel, go to Forest Road 374 and turn left. The entrance to the group campgrounds is beyond the St. Charles Campground. The Spruce Group Campground is beyond the Ponderosa Group Campground.
