Alvarado Campground
     

     The Alvarado Campground is located about 10 miles southwest of Westcliffe at an elevation of 9,000 feet. This campground has 50 campsites suitable for small RVs and tents. There are also three campsites designated for horse camping. The 3 horse sites have more space and are away from the other campsites. You must bring only certified weed free hay, or certified weed free cubes, or pellets. Sites 43 – 47 are walk-in tent sites. The campground is well shaded with aspen and lodgepole pines. Facilities include six vault toilets and four water hydrants. The roads through the campground are gravel. There are two trailheads located in the campground giving easy access to hiking or horseback riding. Reservations are accepted for 30 of the campsites including the horse sites. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.

HORSEBACK RIDING: Horseback riding is available on the Venable and Rainbow trails.

Directions:
     
Take State Highway 69 south from Westcliffe for approximately 3 miles to County Road 140, then west on County Road 140 for 7 miles to Alvarado Campground.
