Columbine Campground
     

     Columbine Campground is located about 2 miles west of Central City at an elevation of 9,200 feet. The campground is situated in a grove of aspen and lodgepole pine. There are forty seven sites in the campground. Forty three are suitable for RV camping and 4 are more suitable for tents. Most of the sites are heavily wooded. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring or grate. The maximum vehicle length that can be accommodated is 55 feet.
     The roads through the campground are dirt. There are 6 water hydrants and 4 restrooms. One of the restrooms will accommodate disabled persons and is located on the lower loop. Camp sites in this campground are reservable. The season for this campground normally runs from late May through mid September, depending on the weather. Bears have been known to frequent the area. Check with the Forest Service for the current fees.

Activities:
HIKING: Although there are no maintained trails in the area there are numerous jeep roads suitable for hiking.

BICYCLING: Numerous jeep roads provide scenic routes for bike riding.

SIGHT SEEING: Take the peak to peak highway for a great scenic drive. For those of a more risk taking nature there are the casinos of Central City and Blackhawk.

Directions:
     Take SR 119 west from Boulder to Nederland. Travel south on 119 approximately 15 miles to Blackhawk. Turn right and travel through Central City. Follow the dirt road between the cemeteries for about 1.2 miles to the campground. The campground is located on the right side of the road. Alternatively take US 6 to Golden and SR 119 to Blackhawk. Turn left at Blackhawk.
