South Shore Campground
     

      Carter Lake has six campgrounds situated around its north, east, and south shores. The elevation here is about 5,760 feet. These campgrounds will accommodate anything from tents to large RVs. There are 107 campsites spread across six campgrounds. These campgrounds include: North Pines, Eagle, Lowell ’s Campground, Big Thompson, Carter Knolls, and South Shore . They vary widely as to the amenities that they provide. Most have good views. There is a dump station near the entrance to the park. Reservations are accepted and a Larimer County Parks Permit is required. These campgrounds are very popular and often fill most weekends. Campsites are reservable from April through October. Most sites are available on a first come first served basis from November through March.

      The South Shore campground is located along the southwest shore of the lake. There are 30 campsites with 24 being suitable for RVs and six suitable for tents. Shade is provided by some planted deciduous trees and ponderosa pines. All of the RV sites have pull-through parking areas. The tent sites are located on a hill to the west. Amenities include: picnic tables, fire grates, four vault toilets, three drinking water hydrants, horseshoe pits, and volleyball nets. The south boat ramp is located next to the campground.

Activities:
HIKING: The Sundance and Fawn Hollow trails are located near the lake.

FISHING: A variety of fish species are contained in Carter Lake.

BOATING: Water skiing and sailing are popular at Carter Lake.

Take Highway 34 west from Loveland to County Road 29. Turn south on CR 29 and travel about two miles to CR 18E. Turn west on CR18E and go about 2.2 miles to the entrance to CarterLake.
