Horsetooth Reservoir has two campgrounds situated around south, and southwest shores. The elevation here is about 5,340 feet. These campgrounds will accommodate anything from tents to large RVs. There are 111 campsites spread between two campgrounds. These campgrounds include: Inlet Bay and South Bay campgrounds. Most of the campsites offer pull through parking and have good views of the reservoir. The main activities here are boating and fishing. Reservations are accepted and a Larimer County Parks Permit is required. These campgrounds are very popular and often fill most weekends.
The South Bay campground has 58 campsites and seven cabins nestled around the south bay area of the reservoir. Four of the sites are tent sites located in the north part of the campground near the cabins. Most of the campsites have pull-through parking with a few back-ins at the southern tip of the reservoir. The campsites are closely spaced on both sides of a gravel road. Some shade is provided by medium sized deciduous trees but many sites have no shade. Good views of the bay can be found at most campsites. This campground has four vault toilets and twelve water hydrants. There is a group use area with horseshoe pits and volleyball nets at the south end of the campground. A dump station is located near the entrance.
